On 2-5 May 2025, Kaunas Photography Gallery took part in one of the most important German photography events – the OFF//FOTO Festival Mannheim-Ludwigshafen-Heidelberg, where it presented a carefully selected collection of its publications. These are not only the most beautiful publications of the gallery’s recent years, but also intellectual artefacts shaping the Lithuanian photographic field and its international recognition.
This collection is a journey through the explorations, themes and trajectories of the Lithuanian photographic field: from classical humanism to a conceptual archival turn, from an intimate look at the body to a critique of visual history. During the festival, the publications were presented as an independent exhibition and in the form of a lively conversation with visitors. After the event, the gallery’s solid collection of publications found a new home in the academic library of the Technische Hochschule Mannheim, where it will be added to the holdings of photography, visual culture and publishing studies.
This gesture is not only an act of cultural dissemination, but also the beginning of a long-term partnership that will allow Lithuanian photographic voices to be heard not only in exhibitions, but also on the shelves of future photographers, researchers and designers. The Kaunas Photography Gallery’s publishing direction – slow, qualitative, attentive to content and form – is increasingly visible in international contexts.
