On 13 February, 5 PM, Kaunas Gallery will host an open lecture by Gudrun Havsteen-Mikkelsen. Gudrun is a designer and visual journalist from Denmark, whose practice combines artistic research and journalistic methods to develop a critical approach to material culture and storytelling. For the past eight years, her research has focused on the Arctic – scenarios of mineral futures, geopolitical tensions in the region, the climate crisis and narratives of colonialism. She analyses the dynamics of these complex themes through films, publications, radio programmes, maps and sculptural objects. She teaches at the Icelandic University of the Arts and is part of The Danish Arts Foundation’s Young Artistic Elite programme.

In this lecture, Gudrun will talk about journalism, storytelling and journeys in design practice – a design practice that is particularly focused on the Arctic region, its resource potential and colonial legacy that stretches into the future. The lecture will be followed by a screening of her film Promises for Business (25 min). This lecture is relevant for anyone interested in geopolitics, the Arctic, journalism, artistic research and design.

The lecture will be held in English.
