Ramunė Pigagaitė’s exhibition “People of My City” in Novi Sad

On January 12th the opening of the Ramunė Pigagaitė’s exhibition “People of My City” took place in “Suluv” gallery, Novi Sad, Serbia. In exhibition Ramunė Pigagaitė, a Lithuanian born photographer currently residing in Germany, present the series, started in 2000, in which she returns to her childhood, while capturing people of her hometown Varėna posing with their occupational accessories.

According to art historian Agnė Narusytė, “people of Varėna town are like saints carved from wood by the masters of folk craftsmanship, not letting go of their accessories, holding on to them as to their selfhood. If it were not for these accessories, no one could tell who they were. Stories of their work, joys and sufferings would be forever lost.”

Exhibition will take place until January 19.

Exhibition is a part of “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture” and “Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture” programmes.
